    Richmond Grows Seed Lending Library
The seed lending library is open to members to "borrow" seeds. It's easy to become a member. Just sign up and attend an online orientations. We have a wide collection of edibles including dozens of varieties of vegetables. We also have a cabinet of herbs and another with flowers, California natives and other ornamental plants. During the orientation, you'll learn about how the library is organized, what does it mean to "borrow" seeds and why a free seed library is valuable to our community. Doing the orientation will give you the privilege to borrow (and hopefully return) seeds any time the library is open. Check out the Richmond Grows website for our class schedule to learn more about topics such as how to save seeds, grow seedlings etc..

Richmond Grows is a collaborative project between the Richmond Rivets and the Richmond Public Library and is fiscally sopnsored by Urban Tilth. To our knowledge we were the first seed lending library in the nation that is housed in a public library. Since our opening we have helped a number of other people and  groups to start seed libraries.

2 Steps A Month to Emergency Preparedness

Disaster preparedness is a daunting task. We all know it's a good idea, especially here in earthquake country, but many of us cannot seem to put our emergency plans and supplies together. Like many things, preparing for emergencies is better and easier when done with others. Since Transition Towns are all about building community, Richmond Rivets has designed a program that makes this important task easier and helps build community at the same time. See this link for easy-to-use videos and materials  for the  2 Steps A Month Program.

    Richmond Resilience Fair

    Picture
Richmond has been making great strides in bringing together our community to create a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable city.

As we are all working so hard in our respective areas, we don’t always have time to stay in touch with our colleagues who are doing similar or complementary work.

Let’s get together to see what everyone is doing to make Richmond an even more resilient city!

The Richmond Rivets Transition Town would like to invite you join us in planning the first Richmond Resilience Fair to be held in early 2012.  The purpose of this day is to bring together Richmond leaders working to make the City a more sustainable place.

Some of the events planned for the Fair include:
    • Presentations
    • Panel discussions
    • Guest speaker(s)
    • An exhibit area

We would highly value your participation in imagining this event. You will have the opportunity to network with others, discover opportunities to collaborate, get the word out about what you are doing and enjoy the camaraderie of a community working together for a great purpose.
